Missing her badly. Need to date her once more at least.. ;)

Missing those days badly.

“Very few people have ever said anything nice about Calcutta, unless they were Bengali.”
(Geoffrey Moorhouse)

Kolkata, The City of joy

She is very beautiful and will create a strong bond with you for a lifetime. If you had lived with her for some time, she would gift warm memories you will never forget in all your life!

I was with her for 4 years and imagine the deep affection I’ve had for her. I always enjoyed the weekends with her, strolling in the old streets or in the high-tech Salt Lake City where air-conditioned cars silently traversed alongside cycle rickshaws and auto-rickshaws. The tuk-tuk drivers in Kolkata never cease to  amaze you with their impressive driving skills and to enjoy the true roller-coaster tuk-tuk ride, I suggest taking a ride in Salt Lake on the morning of any weekday, a tuk-tuk fast and furious? a gripping experience.

Shot from Kolkata taxi in a rainy season...

Work mornings begin with waking up at 9:30 am and chasing after the bus to reach the 10 AM meeting. Hanging onto the bus’s floorboard while the road was enveloped by a sea of yellow taxis became a thrilling routine. After an hour of mundane meeting ,she takes you to the small poori kada, where I could savor four piping hot puris with sabzi for ten bucks, with a 1Rs tea in a small cute clay pot.It was during these tea sessions at Shambhu dha’s shop that I bumped into a unique character - a lady whose smoking style fascinated me.Though I craved to capture her smoking on camera, I couldn’t help as I was scared of the women’s commission ;)

In the evenings, we would indulge in the spicy hot 50-paisa pani puris, relishing the uniqueness of this street snack. Where else could one find such an a delicious culinary experience? In fact, I even managed to set a personal record, 65 pani puris in a single shot. Yet, my beloved friend, Rahul M.R set an impressive record of 72!

Weekends starts with the irresistible call to the City Centre, tempting me to indulge in the joy of window shopping and aimless wandering. Playing football on weekends nearby Karunamayi and fighting with a big fat guy, Santy Singh which almost always results in me falling down! :). Then hailing a taxi from Karunamayi; where the taxi driver has already manipulated the taxi’s meter to make it run at lighting speed and ends up in double the actual fare; Fighting with the guy to cut down the taxi fare finally ending up with us settling on a decent fare (tough to bargain with Bengalis Indeed ;) !
Behind the scenes: Apparently a taxi driver tried to throw a stone at us, we quickly ran away from the scene and giggled at him. Funny it was!

Central park near by Karunamayi is a wonderful place. Central park is a huge expanse of greenery meant for relaxation, but through out the day, it is taken over by young boys and girls on the lookout for seclusion. Elders find it embarrassing to stroll in its grounds for fear of suddenly finding scenes being enacted – scenes that are appropriate in the privacy of the bedrooms, not in the open, behind some shrubs!! :D

Victoria Memorial, Kolkata

Walking in the streets and taking the tram ride in park circus where you can find another sea of humanity. Oh! Darling, you are photographer's paradise, offering countless opportunities to capture the essence of life. Central Kolkata (Old Kolkata) has lot of things to show you, old buildings constructed at the time of British era, Victoria memorial building and lot more. Walking with her in these streets is a wonderful experience. How can I forget College Street, where we can explore the old buildings that define Kolkata's charm. College street has book stalls from start to the end of the street and lot of stalls that offers 1000+ designs of unique wedding cards.

Gariahat holds a special place in my heart, as I have spent a significant amount of time there with Kolkata. The endless roadside shops in Sriram Market and in Esplanade are great spots for shopping, offering a variety of items at affordable prices, where bargaining with shopkeepers becomes an exciting game. They might quote a high price like 1000rs for a small handbag, and we would counter with an offer of 50-100 Rs. It's all part of the fun! And let's not forget the famous mouthwatering sweets of Kolkata that can be found in various sweet stalls throughout the city.

Kolkata is a city that never ceases to amaze me.

The streets, the delicious food, the unique experiences, and the warm-hearted people made Kolkata
a special place for me. It's a city that embraces you, fills your senses, and leaves an everlasting
impression.

  4. Two years ago, when I landed in Kolkata, I hated it. Never did I even imagine then that I would grow to love this place with all it's pluses and minuses. When you grow fond of something, you accept it for what it is (the good and the bad) and that is exactly what I feel towards Kolkata now. Great post!
